Berlin Wall

The end of the World War II formed many changes and reforms in many countries of the world. Since the Axis powers were defeated to Allied powers, Germany was totally controlled by US, Soviet, France and Britain. It was strategically divided into four parts and governed by the Allied rulers.

This could not last long. By 1945 the cold war occurrence between US and Soviet created a suffocating atmosphere to govern Germany. As a result a Germany was bifurcated into West Germany and East Germany. The West Germany (FRG) was governed by French, US and British. Soviet Union was occupied by the Soviets. The German wall was built on 13th August 1961.

This wall was dividing the patriotic touch of the Germans. Though they were physically separated the civilians always had a good feel on their counterparts. Officially 98 people were shot dead as they tried to cross the border. In the late 1980’s many revolutions were raised by the civilians of both sides and due to many other supporting factors the Wall was brought down and official reunion was declared on 3rd October 1990.
